Single, King Single or Double?
A standard Australian Single mattress is about 92 x 188 cm, a King Single about
107 x 203 cm and a Double about 138 x 188 cm. A King Single adds both width and length
over a Single, while a Double gives substantially more width. Measure the room and think
about how the bed will be used before choosing.
Bunk bed, loft bed or standard bed?
Bunk and loft beds can make better use of floor space, but raised sleeping platforms have
additional mattress-height, guardrail, room-clearance and age considerations. A standard
Single, King Single or Double bed can be simpler where space-saving is not the main priority.
Match the mattress to the bed
Choose the correct mattress size and check the bed manufacturer's support requirements.
For bunk and loft beds, the maximum permitted mattress height is especially important
because mattress depth affects the effective guardrail height.
Plan storage around the room
Under-bed drawers, bedside storage, toy cabinets and other bedroom furniture can help use
space efficiently. Check the full dimensions and opening clearance of storage pieces before
deciding where the bed and furniture will sit.
